Kelly Silvera is CEO of Fawma, an AI firm that supports women in their personal professional lives. She and the team are creating a peer support community of experts and thought leaders to share strategies and skills.
Biography
Kelly Silvera is CEO of Fawma, an AI firm that delivers soil insights to smallholder farmers using precision technology. Kelly is an award-winning International Business Leader and Entrepreneur with expertise in launching and scaling start-ups. She is credited with launching and developing Al Jazeera’s English speaking channels. For 12 years she led operations in Doha, London, New York, Washington DC plus more than sixty offices worldwide building the brand and expanding its reach.
In her current role leading a social impact business she’s developing the Caribbean Tech sector. Her focus on precision farming using Artificial Intelligence is a means to achieve reparative justice in an environment where 55% of the labour force works in agriculture. She is passionate about teaching young people entrepreneurial skills and creating wealth for Black communities through the development of AI assisted companies.
Kelly began her career in London as a journalist with roles at the BBC, ITV, Sky News and Channel 4. In 2006 she moved to Qatar, where she joined Al Jazeera Media Network as an Executive Producer. There she ran editorial, structuring teams to broadcast news, sport, arts and entertainment coverage.
In 2017 she moved home to Jamaica where she has led a digital marketing agency, TV network and now an agri-tech start-up. At the agency her team developed websites, mobile applications and executed marketing and advertising strategies on behalf of corporate clients. As Vice President at national free to air channel CVM Television she transformed the business from a single focused traditional media company to a multi-platform digital first entity.
Kelly is a highly effective leader with excellent interpersonal skills focused on building and maintaining relationships. She has been recognized with multiple journalism awards including; Peabody, Royal Television Society, Association of International Broadcasters, New York Festivals, Huffington Post and an International Emmy nomination. In 2018 she received Jamaica’s National Innovation Award for her work in developing tech around environmental sustainability.
